Credentials

Mary May is a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Master Basket Maker specializing in South Jersey baskets.  She has been weaving for more than 17 years, learning by classes and experimentation and later under guidance of New Jersey Master Basketer, Esther Parker.  Mary May is an officer of the Penn-Jersey Basket Guild, she is a regular demonstrator and educator at the Tuckerton Seaport, the LBI Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, and the New Jersey Forestry Interpretive Center. 

Presentation

Mary May can speak to your group about the history of South Jersey basket making, baymen/pineland baskets, how white oak baskets are made, and for a group of 20 or more, she will do a "hands on history" which involves each person making a small South Jersey basket (cost = $5 to cover materials per person and runs approximately 3 hours for a group of 20).
 

Availability

She is available to present to any group ages 10 and above on weekdays and weekends for a modest honorarium (not including materials if needed).  Exact amount of honorarium to be discussed in advance.
