Biographical Information:

While employed by the University of Florida as a field faculty member, Ms. Cashion developed an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) educational curriculum and implemented an IPM pilot with selected growers of ornamental plants.  She has experience in conducting and supervising monitoring efforts as components of biorational IPM programs and routinely designs professional landscape plantings in states from New Jersey to Florida.  She is the author of over 40 published articles on IPM, as well as identification materials, including insect ID flashcards, slide presentations, and posters.  She has been invited to speak on biological control at the Smithsonian Institution, the University of Maryland, and at various other seminars and programs.  She attended Duke University and Rutgers, the State University, receiving a BS in Plant Science and an MS in Plant Physiology.

Her topic areas include:

  • Biocontrol in the greenhouse;
  • Biocontrol in the garden center;
  • Biocontrol in the landscape;
  • Growing without toxic chemicals;
  • Getting to know and use natural enemies;
  • Compatibility of beneficial insects and mites with least toxic chemicals; and
  • Integrated pest management -- getting started with biorational pest management.


Availability:

Ms. Cashion will speak to your Adult, College, High School, Middle School or Elementary School group on weekday mornings, afternoons or evenings.  She would appreciate it if a computer projector could be made available.  Ms. Cashion is accustomed to receiving an honorarium for her presentation, and would need mileage reimbursed for anything over 20 miles (round trip) from Pt. Pleasant.
